2020/2021 BUSING OPTIONS - MUST BE COMPLETED FOR ALL LPSD STUDENTS
Last week SK Education Minister Gordon Wyant announced guidelines for the return of students for the coming school year. Included in those guidelines was the following statement: "Parents are asked to transport their children to school whenever possible." When this is not possible, LPSD will provide transportation to those students who reside within the current transportation boundaries. (Note: This applies to busing within city limits. Rural busing arrangements still need to be made with either Buffalo Trail Public Schools or Northwest School Division.)
Starting the 2020/21 school year we will require:
- All current families to complete either form below by July 31, 2020.
- All new families to complete either form below at the time of registration.
- All students requiring transportation will be assigned a specific seta.
- Students will be seated 2 per seat per SK recommendations.
- Family members that ride the same bus will be seated together
- Those students who have not completed the Bus Registration form WILL NOT be allowed to ride the bus.
- Transportation will be provided from/to one location only.
Please complete one of the following two options for each of your children by July 31st, 2020:
Option 1 - My child will NOT need transportation. Please complete the following form: Not requiring bus transportation
Option 2 - My child REQUIRES bus transportation. Please complete the following form: LPSD 2020/21 Busing Registration Form
2020 - 2021 Jr Kindergarten Registration Now Open
LPSD junior kindergarten registration is now open to students residing either within or outside of the LPSD attendance boundaries! Please fill out both the school registration form and the junior kindergarten student information form. Links for both forms are below. The school registration form is specific to Barr Colony school and will be submitted automatically upon filling it out and hitting submit. Please note that both forms must be completed and submitted prior to your child being placed on our list. Literacy at Our School
Literacy is an integral part of how we operate at Barr Colony School. Not only do teachers at Barr Colony work together to plan and deliver lessons targeted at each student’s instructional level, but they also used the new Saskatchewan Reads document to guide their instruction. The extensive Saskatchewan Reads document is based on the research of leading reading experts.
Our Literacy Coach is an important part of our school-based literacy team and works alongside teachers to improve instructional practices.
At Barr Colony School, we have celebrated literacy in many ways this year. Every day, students from our leadership club read with students who do not always have an opportunity to read with someone at home.
We have had a “booknic” where parents came to school with a picnic lunch and read with their children. Many families come to our Family Literacy nights for both Kindergarten as well as the whole school.
During literacy nights, families read books and work together on activities based on what they have read. Character dress up day is always a favourite with students as they get to show off their favourite characters from their favourite books.
One of the school’s favourite activities this year was when two of our Grade 6 students shared a Cree book with the rest of the classes in the school. This was an amazing opportunity for them to take some leadership and to celebrate their culture.
